Millions of GIFs At Your Fingertips With GIF Finder Apps

If anything has enhanced our ability to express ourselves in social media, it’s the millions of GIFs that perfectly capture the feeling of any moment. I admit, emoji are great for some situations, but they can become stale quickly. On the other hand, GIFs let you express yourself in a way that even words or any emoji combination can’t describe. However, finding the perfect GIF to fit the conversation can be hard if you don’t know where to look.

I know I’ve found myself more than once hastily searching the web for reaction GIFs to share in a conversation I am having with my friends. Before I know it, I’ve spent over 10 minutes searching and I still haven’t found the right one. So, I decided to do some research to locate the best apps for finding GIFs. After spending some time browsing the web, I ended up using a site a friend of mine recommended called AppGrooves. It turns out they have a top 10 list of supposedly the best GIF finder apps.

Best 10 Apps for Finding GIFs by AppGrooves

I tested some of the apps and rounded up my favorites. Instead of simply reviewing the apps, I thought it would be best to group them depending on your needs. The first group is great for finding all kinds of GIFs, from animal GIFs and movie clip GIFs to reaction GIFs and more. The second group is great If you want to easily create GIFs of your own.

GIF Finder Apps with Search Engines

The best way to find GIFs is to have access to a large GIF database and use a search engine to quickly find what you are looking for. This is exactly what you will get with my first group of apps. Whether you want the best funny GIFs, latest celebrity GIFs or some great cat GIFs, I’m certain you will find the perfect one for any occasion.

Apps: GIF Keyboard by Tenor & GIPHY

My first pick is GIF Keyboard by Tenor. What I really like about it is that you can search for GIFs directly from the keyboard when you are in the middle of a conversation. No need to exit your messaging app to find GIFs to send to your friends. Although the GIF keyboard interface is not as polished as the default keyboard, I found it to be super convenient and easy to use. You can also easily switch between the two with a tap.

My second pick is GIPHY with supposedly the world’s largest library of animated GIFs. I really like the category system which is great for quickly finding the perfect GIF. I’ve even found myself just browsing GIPHY for fun when I’ve had a couple of minutes to spare. The only drawback I found is that you don’t have the option to create personalized folders for your favorite GIFs. An easy workaround I found is to just save them to my phone’s gallery and organize them there.

GIF Finder Apps for Creating your Own GIFs

If you love GIFs, then you might want to take your GIF collection to the next level by creating and sharing your own! Instead of limiting your GIF selection to those you can find on the web, your GIF selection is virtually unlimited with the ability to create any GIF you want. I can already think of several movie scenes that would make excellent GIFs. You can easily edit clips, add captions and share your creations with the world.

Apps: GIF Maker (Android) & GIF X (iOS)

GIF Maker is one of my favorites for Android users. Not only can you search for GIFs from other sources like GIPHY and Tenor, but you can also use a wide variety of editing tools to create your own GIFs. I made a couple of GIFs just for the kicks, and I found it easy to create them using photos and videos from my gallery. I also like the variety of filters, emojis, and stickers you can add to your GIF creations. The only complaint I have is that you can’t preview video edits, so finding the exact cutoff times can take a bit of trial and error. However, it is easy to make adjustments and get the clip you want.

My GIF creator pick for iOS users is GIF X. Like GIF Maker, you can easily browse GIFs from GIPHY, save them to your gallery and share them with your friends. I was particularly impressed with the variety of GIF creating tools. With over 300 GIF effects and more than 200 masks for customizing your GIFs, I can’t even imagine going through them all. The possibilities are virtually limitless. Although hundreds of filters and masks are available for free, some of the more ‘advanced’ ones are limited to the premium version. I found the vast selection of free filters to be more than enough for casual users like me. But if you want the complete set of tools, the premium version won’t break the bank either!

These are my top picks for finding the perfect GIFs for any occasion. Whether you want to explore and search through millions of GIFs or create some of your own, these apps will get you what you need. I hope you like these as much as I do. Happy GIF finding!
